You were to hear of our February Program Plans at our January Meeting.
However the weather did not cooperate, so here it is.
We are planning a fun and interactive meeting (See Below for the Description and details). You will need to bring a small amount of fibre and embellishments to personalize your batt , your drum carder, if you have one, and your spinning wheel. If you have a larger orifice for your wheel it is recommend but not necessary.
Note: The more drum carders we have at the meeting the faster you can produce the batt and start spinning.
February Program – Crazy Batts – an interactive program
For All Skill Levels
Participants are asked to bring their drum carders, and spinning wheels to produce novelty yarns known commercially as “Plucky Fluff.”
The base fiber needed for the foundation of the batt will be provided by the guild.
This will be a colored Merino top (you will choose the colors).
You need to provide:
Bits and pieces from your stash to make your batt personalized
for example:
Colored yarn and fibre, novelty yarns, locks, silk ribbon. felted bits, glitter fibre, embroidery floss, narrow strip of cloth These will be added to the fibre during carding to make interesting batts.
When spinning the batts, silk flowers and felted bits can be added to add texture. These spinning techniques will be demonstrated during the meeting. You will produce funky yarns that fun to produce and fun to knit.
