Knitting Lessons: Socks with Joan Schrouder
Join us for a special 3-hour class, “Shockin’ Stockin’s Hybrid” taught by famous knitter Joan Shrouder.
Description: Turn your world topsy-turvy by knitting stockings from the toes UP – Why??? Because it lets you use limited quantities of yarn to their best advantage (leg or cuff length can be for as long as you have yarn to knit), because pattern stitches will be RIGHT-SIDE UP on socks (unless you stand on your head!) and because it’s fun to do things differently! Box toe and conventional heel flap and gusset heels will also be covered. No longer will a too-tight CO become an issue; if BO is too tight, it’s easy to undo and redo more loosely.
Knitting Lessons: Custom Sweater with Joan Schrouder
Join us for a special 6-hour class, “Your Own Customized Set-In Sleeve Sweater” taught by famous knitter Joan Shrouder.
Description: Are you tired of: Ill-fitting armholes? Running out of yarn as you get to that last sleeve cap? Ending up with sleeves too long or too short? Trying to sew sleeves in neatly?
Then come find out how you can take the basic “rules” of sweater construction and customize them to your size and desired ease. Top-down construction can be tried on at any time to check fit. Side seams are eliminated which minimizes time needed for finishing and automatically matches horizontal st patterns and color bands, especially useful if you’re using self-striping variegated yarns. Body and sleeve lengths can be adjusted to available yarn amounts, helping ensure you’ll never run out of yarn at an inopportune time.
Joan’s plan is for a top-down sweater so that you can get through the upper body yoke and work enough of a set-in sleeve from the top-down so you can try it on and check for fit while she is available for consultation and problem-solving. You’ll be able to complete the body and sleeve lengths based on your calculations and class notes after the trip is over.
