Call out for Artists/Craftspeople

The Port Moody Arts Centre Society, as part of our 14th Annual Festival of the Arts, will be participating in the Annual Ioco Ghost Town Days on Sunday October 2, 2011. This event is held at the far West end of Ioco Road in Port Moody.

The Port Moody Heritage Society in conjunction with the Port Moody Arts Centre presents the Annual Ioco Days on Sunday October 2, 2011.

We are looking for artists who work with traditional crafts which could include; lace making, paper quilling, spinning, felting and weaving to join us for this annual event.

As a participating artist you will be demonstrating your craft, explaining the process to the public and organizing ‘hands-on’ activities for children and adults.  Tables, chairs and covered areas will be available for artists.

There will also be an opportunity to showcase your art work at Port Moody Public Library in August 2011 before the event in October 2011.

How to apply:

  • Please mail or email 5 images of your work.
  • Include your contact information: name, address, telephone number and email.
  • Please include a title for each piece, medium, and a price if for sale.
  • Include a short biography and outline your experience relating to this submission.

The deadline for submissions is Friday July 8, 2011

Sea Grass Woven Basket – Using natural or dyed, fine or thick sea grass, weave a basket shaped as though it’s moving under water or by the tide, either upright or rolling in every direction. Supply fee $16. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Kid’s Fibre Arts Workshop – Dye fleece brilliant colours with Kool Aid, card and spin wool and weave on a real loom. Boys and girls have fun learning how textiles were made in the old days. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Kids Can Knit – Spend three fun afternoons at the museum learning to knit. After completing a sample you will make a small bag with your new skills! Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Summer Spinning Workshop–Level 1 – Spend relaxing and fun afternoons learning to spin wool on traditional spinning wheels. Take home your unique skeins of yarn for your knitting, crocheting or weaving projects. Supply fee $10. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Tue, July 19-Thu, July 21      2:00pm-4:00pm    3 sessions $36 (16+yrs)

Parent and Preschooler Fibre Arts – Enjoy hands-on fun for you and your little one and build manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination as you try weaving on a real loom, spool knitting and felting. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Easy Lace Knitting – Everyone can knit lace! Learn to knit lace in any weight of yarn, and how to unravel the mystery of charts for easy or intricate patterns. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.

Pic-Knit – Bring a knitting project and join a summer gathering of knitters, crafters and suppliers at the Museum Plaza. Watch the experts in action, get tips and learn tricks to inspire your own heritage yarn craft. Visit with llamas and try crafts for kids.

Introduction to Nature Dyeing  – Find out what nature provides to dye beautiful natural colours of yarn. Learn how to extract dyes from plants, mordant yarn, and make a dye bath to create eco-friendly and unique skeins of yarn for your projects. Supply fee $8. Must pre-register at 604-592-6956.
