INSPIRATION FOR GARMENT FABRICS

Teresa Ruch, noted creator of hand-dyed, hand-painted and hand-woven garments, will be the guest speaker at the Whatcom Weavers Guild April 11 meeting.

Stuck on what to weave next? Ever wonder how textile industry designers get their ideas? Want inspiration on how to give zip to a stripe design or border design? Want ideas on how to develop great drape in your hand-woven fabric? Teresa’s PowerPoint presentation of commercial fabrics from fashion magazines and how they can be translated into hand-woven designs can answer some of those questions and more. Included is a discussion of color, drape and design as related to hand weaving. Fabric swatches and garments will be available to examine.

Teresa Ruch owns and runs a business of dyeing and selling yarns to weavers and knitters, and sells her garments of hand-woven, dyed fibers. She discovered the weaving loom in college and has been weaving ever since. She worked in the textile industry for 18 years as a sample weaver and a jacquard designer for interiors, menswear, womenswear and contract furniture. Now she is back to creating her own work and selling it.  See more at www.teresaruchdesigns.com

The meeting will be on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church’s lower level meeting room at 910 14th St. in Bellingham.  Admission is free.

For further information about the Whatcom Weavers Guild, visit www.whatcomweaversguild.org or contact Sheri Ward, info@whatcomweaversguild.org or 360-961-4956.
