For the first meeting in our 2011 – 2012 schedule on Thursday September 15
at night starting at 7:30 pm, some of you are presenting in a BIG SHOW AND
TELL about your experiences at the recent ANWG conference. The
organization for that night is loose and friendly, so that your completed
or partly completed projects, work & idea books and general impressions
can be shared with the rest of us.
We have an exciting program year coming up, focusing on wearables. To start things off, September’s program will be led by guild members and will highlight the many ways we can approach wearables. Sondra Rose will talk about wearables made from hand-woven fabric for which little shaping is required once the fabric leaves the loom. Barbara Snow will go through some ideas about sewing with your precious hand-woven fabric and getting good results. Donna Hunter will discuss and show us some of her wonderful wearable felt. Bring your own approaches as well, and your questions. It should be fun!
The meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church’s lower level meeting room at 910 14th St. in Bellingham. Admission is free.

Join us for a special 3-hour class, “Shockin’ Stockin’s Hybrid” taught by famous knitter Joan Shrouder.
Description: Turn your world topsy-turvy by knitting stockings from the toes UP – Why??? Because it lets you use limited quantities of yarn to their best advantage (leg or cuff length can be for as long as you have yarn to knit), because pattern stitches will be RIGHT-SIDE UP on socks (unless you stand on your head!) and because it’s fun to do things differently! Box toe and conventional heel flap and gusset heels will also be covered. No longer will a too-tight CO become an issue; if BO is too tight, it’s easy to undo and redo more loosely.
Join us for a special 6-hour class, “Your Own Customized Set-In Sleeve Sweater” taught by famous knitter Joan Shrouder.
Description: Are you tired of: Ill-fitting armholes? Running out of yarn as you get to that last sleeve cap? Ending up with sleeves too long or too short? Trying to sew sleeves in neatly?
Then come find out how you can take the basic “rules” of sweater construction and customize them to your size and desired ease. Top-down construction can be tried on at any time to check fit. Side seams are eliminated which minimizes time needed for finishing and automatically matches horizontal st patterns and color bands, especially useful if you’re using self-striping variegated yarns. Body and sleeve lengths can be adjusted to available yarn amounts, helping ensure you’ll never run out of yarn at an inopportune time.
Joan’s plan is for a top-down sweater so that you can get through the upper body yoke and work enough of a set-in sleeve from the top-down so you can try it on and check for fit while she is available for consultation and problem-solving. You’ll be able to complete the body and sleeve lengths based on your calculations and class notes after the trip is over.

My son’s boss has nine sheep on his property in Langley and they were shorn last week. The wool is for sale, I believe that they are good size fleece, I don’t know their weight. They would like to see $30.00 per fleece. There is one white one and the rest are beautiful shades of grey and browns and they are all Romneys.
